I did these tapestries after I did my Grandfather's present. I caught the tapestry bug.

Tapestry
In 1981 my Grandfather gave me my Christmas present in November. He always gave me money and I would buy what I wanted. However, this year it came too early and I asked him why he was giving me my present in November. He told me he wouldn't be around at Christmas. I told him not to be silly as he was well. However, 2 weeks later he got pneumonia and died. I wanted to get something with the money that i could remember him for the rest of my life. I bought this tapestry and eagerly went about doing it. Thinking of my Grandfather with every stitch. He was a remarkable man with so many stories to tell. I miss him and wish i could tell him that. I am sure he knows how much I love him.

Embroidered Topiary
Here is another embroidered Topiary tree that I made some years ago. Once again I did not follow any pattern but made it up myself. I have used French Knots and ribbon roses for the ball part of the tree. The stem is twisted ribbon with French Knots to hold it down. The same with the bows. However, the bows are silk ribbons. The pot is made of clay.
The frame I have painted myself and also used crackle paint to give it an aged look.
I have also padded the background.

Embroidered Topiary
Close up of Embroidered Topiary
The flowers are Suffolk Puffs except the blue one in the middle. It is just ribbon gathered. All have beads sewn into the centres.
The stem is fabric and the swigs have been embroidered in stem stitch and lazy daisy stitch. I used Jewel embroidery thread that is thicker and pearly. The pot is embroidered with blanket stitch.I even painted and varnished my frame to match in with the design. I have rubbed gold on top of the pink Matisse paint. You can buy the paint from Cropworks.
I love to embroider and make up things. I didn't follow a pattern for this but made it up as I went.
The fabric flowers are Suffolk Puffs (some people call them YoYos)
